On May 11, the rematch of the 8th National Interpretation Competition (English) Shandong division was held successfully at Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Provincial People’s Government.
Five students from our college participated in the competition after strict election and training. Among them, Deng Yuyan and Qi Lin from English major won the second prize, Zhou Lingyu from English major and Wang Baoyu from MTI won the third prize. And they will take part in the regional competition on behalf of Shandong Province. Ji Chengyan from MTI won the Excellence Award. Their tutor Zhu Shan, the associate professor of the Department of English Language and Literate, has gain four Excellent Guide Teacher Awards.
The competition consisted of the preliminary and the final. After the preliminary, 20 out of the 115 contestants from the whole province entered the final. China University of Petroleum and Shandong University have 4 students entering the final respectively, ranking ahead on the list. Withstanding the pressure of fierce competitions, our students achieved great results!
Through this contest, our students showed excellent interpreting skills, good English application ability and comprehensive quality, and also expanded our university’s influence in the field of translation teaching and research. At the same time, they have accumulated rich experience, which will be useful for the training of translation and further improvement of English application ability.
During the competition, associate professor Zhu Shan had panel discussions on school-enterprise cooperation and translation technology with Liu Yuanshun, president of the Shandong Translation Association, Secretary General Jiang Di, and experts from Shandong University, Shandong University of Finance and Economics, Shandong Jianzhu University, Jinan University and Besesun Translation Company, etc.
