Under the background of striving for “Double First-class”, four departments ( School of postgraduates Department of CPC UPC Committee for postgraduates, International Office and College of Arts) promote to restart the reform of basic English teaching for postgraduates by Department of postgraduates English. Those efforts aim to further improve the teaching system, create a favorable environment of learning English as well as have international exchange as soon as possible for postgraduates of UPC. On the basis of English Corner, starting last year, the program “International Innovative and Practical Space of English for Postgraduates” has been operated two weeks since the beginning of this term.
The program is temporarily held on the 3rd floor of Tangdaowan Dining-hall on weekends and is hosted by foreign teachers and Chinese teachers. Postgraduates can learn English through the lectures and problem-solving solutions of foreign teachers and collaboration of Chinese teachers.
At the moment, three teachers are responsible for the program, including two foreign teachers-Russ and Catherine and a Chinese teacher in Department of postgraduates English. The main courses in the program are Training Camp of Academic Spoken English (7.00pm-9.30pm every Friday) , Workshop of Academic English writing (9.00am-11.30am every Saturday), English Salon (7.00pm-9.30pm every Saturday) and others. Teachers in Department of postgraduates English and foreign teachers often work and discuss together to organize different language practices for postgraduates. It is hoped that students can take advantage of the chance to improve their English.
